3/19/2006 Saturday
nights draw between Rahman & Toney left a huge
unanswered question in regard to who WBC Heavyweight
Champ Hasim Rahman will fight next. The winner of
Saturday nights bout had a mandatory match with Oleg
Maskaev waiting in the wings, but since there was no
winner last night everything is up in the air.
Rahman says he will fight Toney again if the WBC so
wishes. Maskaev's people were there last night and
were heard loud and clear, they believe their
fighter is next for Rahman. As they were screaming
for their rights James Toney interjected, "How much
did you pay to get him ranked?"
What a mess. We figured
the best thing to do was go to the man himself, that
being WBC President Jose Sulaiman, to find out what
his thoughts were on this matter, and the unexpected
result. Here's what he had to say:
Yes, nobody expected this result , and it has to be reviewed by the WBC Board of Governors, mainly because the WBC’s ruling was that the winner shall meet Oleg Maskaev , and there was no winner, but the spirit, it is my opinion , is that Oleg Maskaev should fight Rahman next , and then perhaps , there should be another opportunity for Toney ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but it is the study of the situation by the Board and their decision which should prevail. Best regards.José Sulaimán – President. |
